We know that not everyone has cleaned with hydrogen peroxide cleaning concentrates before. We get questions all the time about what surfaces can be cleaned with our hydrogen peroxide based cleaning concentrates. To answer these questions, here are 5 surfaces you can clean with Homage Essentials.
What is Hydrogen Peroxide?
Hydrogen peroxide is a clear liquid compound that was initially discovered in the early 1800’s. Since then, it’s been used for many different purposes. Hydrogen peroxide consists of two hydrogen molecules and two oxygen molecules. These molecules are combined to make hydrogen peroxide an extremely effective antiseptic and cleaning solution.
Nowadays, most people are familiar with the medical uses of hydrogen peroxide but aren’t as familiar with it’s cleaning properties. This amazing substance is powerful enough to disinfect surgical equipment, but yet is extremely safe for our environment because it safely breaks down into water and oxygen. Our bodies even produce the stuff naturally to kill off illnesses!
Why Should I Clean With Hydrogen Peroxide?
Hydrogen peroxide is known to kill viruses, bacteria, fungi, yeast, and mold spores. An interesting side note is that hydrogen peroxide has also been shown to be highly effective against hard-to-kill mycobacteria and fungi within 5 minutes of peroxide exposure. Because of these properties, hydrogen peroxide is the perfect choice for cleaning the surfaces in your home.
Homage Essentials’ Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning Concentrates contain no added stabilizers or chemicals, only 7% food grade hydrogen peroxide, organic plant based surfactants, and distilled water. This means that you can clean your home, fight germs on your surfaces, and be assured that you are not using toxic chemicals.
5 Surfaces You Can Clean with Homage Essentials
1- Carpets
Hydrogen peroxide is great for getting rid of stains in your rugs and carpets. Because of it’s lightening properties, you should always do a quick color test before spraying a large area of carpet. We recommend using our Homage 360+ solution in either the liquid laundry detergent or sprayable cleaning gel formulas when cleaning your carpets.
The dilution ratio is 1 part Homage detergent/gel with 4 parts water in a dark spray bottle. Spray the dirty area and let it sit for a moment. Be sure to rinse the carpet thoroughly with clean water! If not rinsed thoroughly, the residue could end up attracting more dirt to your carpet. *Note- we do not recommend our Homage 270+ formula for cleaning carpets.
2- Granite Countertops & Sinks
Homage Essentials products can be used on non-porous surfaces such as tile, granite, and sinks. These areas are hotbeds for germs and bacteria. By cleaning them with hydrogen peroxide based cleaning products, you are not only disinfecting your counters and sinks, you are fighting germs without toxic chemicals.
When cleaning a kitchen sink, spray the surface with hydrogen peroxide and let it sit for 10 minutes. Scrub the sink and then rinse it clean. Do this daily to fight bacteria.
3- Grout
White grout on tile floors and walls looks amazing, until it doesn’t. Get your grout white again with hydrogen peroxide. Once you get the surface dirt removed from the grout lines, spray the area liberally with your Homage Essentials cleaner. Let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing with a grout brush. Wipe the surface clean and let it air dry. Repeat as necessary.
4- Upholstered Furniture
We love to use Homage Essentials to clean upholstery. Be sure to dilute the Homage 360+ concentrated cleaner the same as you do for carpets-- 1 part cleaner to 4 parts water. Spray the dirty area and let it sit for a moment before gently scrubbing the dirty sections. Wipe the area clean and rinse if necessary.
5- Glass & Mirrors
When cleaning glass and mirrors with hydrogen peroxide and Homage Essentials Cleaning Concentrates, you will want to rinse the surface after cleaning. If you dilute your hydrogen peroxide more than the recommended dilution of 1 part concentrate to 4 parts water, you may not need to rinse the surface after cleaning. You can decide what works best for your home.
